Flu outbreak at Miramichi Lodge over 0

Staff at Miramichi Lodge reported Friday that the residents exhibiting influenza-like symptoms on one of the resident home areas are recovering and the outbreak has been declared over.

Dee Colborne, infection control practitioner for the home advised that, consistent with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines and in consultation with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, the respiratory outbreak was declared over on April 20.

Shelley Sheedy, administrator, acknowledged the hard work of staff in identifying the common symptoms and then implementing the recommended control measures.

Ms. Sheedy advised that as a result of the compliance of residents, staff and visitors to these control measures, the outbreak was limited to one unit only.

"We thank everyone for their co-operation and the Health Unit staff for their assistance," Ms. Sheedy said.

"The Lodge is happy to report that it is back to 'normal' for the residents on the impacted unit."

Miramichi Lodge, located at 725 Pembroke Street West, is a municipal, 166 bed long-term care home, owned and operated by the County of Renfrew and city of Pembroke. It has provided care to the frail and elderly since 1969.
