Police are investigating after a body was pulled from the Ottawa River near Calumet Island Tuesday.

GRAND CALUMET ISLAND -

There were no signs of foul play on the body pulled from the Ottawa River earlier this week.

The body, which has been identified as a man from Bryson, Que., was discovered by fishermen near Grand Calumet Island around noon Aug. 14.

Although the family has been notified, the Sûreté du Québec is not releasing the name of the man in his 30s, according to police spokesman Sgt. Claude Denis from the Montreal office.

It appeared the body, which was found in the river east of Whitewater Region, had been underwater for a few days. An autopsy, conducted in Montreal, determined the cause of death to be drowning, Sgt. Denis noted.

The police investigation is continuing at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contract the Campbell’s Bay detachment at 819-648-2141.
