Man pleads guilty to criminal harassment 0

The Ontario Court of Justice, Criminal Division convened in Pembroke on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Presiding was Justice Grant Radley-Walters. Representing the Crown attorney’s office was Sam Humphrey and federal Crown Tim McCann.

• Orellyn Liedtke, 60, of Douglas, pleaded guilty to breaching conditions of his probation and criminal harassment. Between Jan. 14 and March 27, 2012, a woman said she received unwanted letters, text messages and phone messages from the accused, who had been a former tenant at her farmhouse before he was evicted.

Justice Radley-Walters granted a four-month conditional sentence and 12 months probation.

• Druce Bone, 40, of Laurentian Valley, pleaded guilty to mischief under $5,000. On July 25, 2012, he returned home in an intoxicated state. An argument broke out with a woman who asked to leave the premises. He proceeded to smash a counter top before ripping a phone from its cord. He also threw a cup of tea into the sink. He has no criminal record.

Justice Radley-Walters granted a conditional discharge and nine months probation.

• Brian Trebinskie, of Madawaska Valley, pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded .08. On Nov. 12, 2011, police observed a pick-up truck swerving as it proceeded northbound on Paugh Lake Road. After conducting a vehicle stop, officers detected an odour of alcohol and noted that the driver had blood shot eyes. He failed the roadside screening device. His blood alcohol level later showed 103 and 95 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Justice Radley-Walters imposed $1,500 fine and a one-year driving prohibition.

• Brian Kreitzer, 48, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a sample and possession of a firearm without a licence. On May 7, 2012, police received a phone call from the Killaloe-Hagarty-Richards fire chief, who reported being passed on the road by a man with a firearm in his vehicle. Police pursued the suspect to his home where they confronted the man. They discovered inside the car a .22 calibre handgun without a trigger lock. They found an open case of beer as well. Justice Radley-Walters has adjourned sentencing until Oct. 9.

• John Leblanc, 60, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to having care and control of a vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded .08. On the night of May 14, 2012, witnesses called city police to report a grey van had pulled into an apartment parking lot with a suspected impaired driver behind the wheel. Officers found the driver unconscious as he was slumped against the driver’s side window. The key was still in the ignition. There was a strong odour of alcohol and an partially opened case of beer in the van. His blood alcohol level later showed 202 and 201 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Justice Radley-Walters imposed a 15-day jail sentence followed by 12 months probation and a two-year driving prohibition.

 

• Kevin Voldock, 49, pleaded guilty to impaired operation of a motor vehicle. On Jan. 15, 2012, city police were called to a store on Eganville Road. They found a white Ford pick-up truck in front of a smashed window. Three witnesses said that the truck had narrowly missed them. The accused claimed that his truck hit a patch of black ice. Store surveillance video also showed the truck narrowly missing the pedestrians. He said he lost control of his vehicle and slid into the store front. His eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. His blood alcohol level later showed 170 and 160 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Justice Radley-Walters imposed a $2,000 fine, a one-year driving prohibition and 12 months probation.

• Brian Ridley, 22, of Petawawa, pleaded guilty to possession of a substance. On May 30, 2012, CFB Petawawa military police observed a vehicle stopped at an intersection on Festubert Boulevard. The vehicle pulled into the intersection just as a five-year-old boy was walking his bike across the street. The vehicle narrowly missed the boy by one metre. After officers stopped the vehicle, they detected a strong odour of marijuana coming from inside. There was smoke coming from the ashtray where a joint had been extinguished. A search of the car turned up two grams of marijuana. The accused has no criminal record.

Justice Radley-Walters imposed a $300 fine and 12 months probation.

• Leslie Thompson, 31, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000. The accused was employed as a housekeeper at a city retirement residence. Police received a complaint from the residence’s administrator that money was missing from some tenants. Staff used hidden cameras to discover what was happening to the money. The accused was seen in some footage bending over a purse that later had $20 missing. Police widened the investigation planting three envelopes with marked bills at the residence. The accused was later found with dye on her hands that came from one of the marked bills.

Justice Radley-Walters imposed a four-month conditional sentence and 12 months probation.

• Shane Riopelle, 31, of Ottawa, pleaded guilty to impaired operation of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and failing to attend court. On March 31, 2011, police pulled over the accused in the Arnprior area and determined he was impaired behind the wheel. Then on three separate dates in December, he stole beer and a bottle of vodka from the town’s Beer Store and LCBO.

Justice Radley-Walters sentenced Mr. Riopelle to 60 days in jail and imposed a nine-conditional sentence and a three-year driving prohibition.

• Connor Duffy, 22, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to uttering a threat to cause bodily harm. On June 25, 2012, police received a complaint from a woman who stated her roommate, the accused, had threaten to beat up her boyfriend. In the weeks leading up to the threat, the accused had become more aggressive in his attitude towards her and the boyfriend. He has no criminal record.

Justice Radley-Walters granted a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.

• Denise Rivet, 23, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal harassment. On May 30, 2012, a man lodged a complaint with city police against the accused. He claimed that she had harassed his girlfriend and, on one occasion, slapped him in the face. The girlfriend had also received numerous unwanted text messages from the accused.

Justice Radley-Walters granted a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.

• Allison Paquette, 19, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to assault. On March 25, 2012, police responded to an altercation at a city apartment. They found a male sporting a bruise eye and scratches on his forehead. He claimed to have been struck by the accused. She has no criminal record.

Justice Radley-Walters granted a conditional discharge and 12 months probation.
