Ready to (Turkey) Trot? 0
Put your running shoes on and come out to join in the 8th Annual 5K Dr. Kim Armstrong ‘‘Turkey Trot’’ on Oct. 6 at the Riverside Park starting at 10 a.m.
The run/walk will start at 10 a.m. with an opening welcome ceremony held by all the co-ordinators. Sherry Haskin, a co-ordinator from Integrated Heath Centre (IHC), estimates that the walk/run should end around 2:30 p.m. as everyone walks at different paces. There will be booths set up along the way with drinks and snacks.
People must register beforehand, and pay a donation: $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $40 for immediate family. The money raised will go to the Dr. Kim Armstrong Bursary Fund and to assist the Pembroke Regional Hospital in purchasing an MRI scanner.
‘’It will be more than donating money,’’ Ms. Haskin says, ‘’it will be also a donation of your time and care.’’
The Turkey Trot has brought in many sponsors over the years, but Integrated Health Centre has been the lead. Ten workers from the IHC will be assisting with the run, and participating in it.
The day will end with a silent auction to raise more money and a closing ceremony to thank all the participants and co-ordinators who took the time to assist in making the fundraiser possible.
The family of Kim Armstrong and the hospital staff thank Pembroke in advance for coming out and being supportive of the cause.
Dr. Armstrong died in Oct. 2005 just shy of her 40th birthday after suffering a massive stroke.
