The Arnprior District High School Redmen overpowered the Bishop Smith Catholic High School Crusaders at home on Thursday, defeating the junior girls basketball squad 43-13.
The senior Crusaders fared no better, being hammered 53-5 by Arnprior.
During the junior game, Arnprior took a commanding 29-10 lead in the first half, then shut down Bishop Smith almost completely, holding them to just three points for the rest of the game.
Top scorers for Arnprior were Emma Shoveller with 14 points, and Shauna McNulty with 10 points, with Emma Pettigrew and Keisha Clark scoring four points apiece, teammates Megan McGrath, Abby Rampton, Grace Barr, Mikaela Appleby-Lanoue and Logan Kenny scoring two points each, and Lauren Hass.
For the Crusaders, Meegan Couturier scored five points, Mara Copeland scored four points and rounding out the score with two points apiece were Alexanna Hawkins and Olivia Kenny.
Rounding out the week’s junior girls basketball action, RCI beat Jeanne-Lajoie 74-6, Arnprior downed General Panet 63-13, Madawaska Valley DHS doubled Mackenzie 40-20, St. Joseph’s defeated Opeongo 30-15, Madawaska Valley beat Panet 34-12, and St. Joseph’s beat Fellowes 28-11.
In senior girls basketball, RCI downed Jeanne-Lajoie 57-13, Arnprior thumped Panet 64-21, Mackenzie edged Madawaska Valley 42-40, Opeongo defeated St. Joseph’s 37-35, and Madawaska Valley defeated General Panet 33-30.
