EGANVILLE -

Police confirmed Saturday that they were searching for the suspect in a brazen robbery of a downtown Eganville bank on Friday night.

Ontario Provincial Police have provided a description of a male suspect who robbed the Northern Credit Union on John Street shortly before 6 p.m.

According to an OPP press release, the suspect is a Caucasian man with a muscular build. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, OPP said.

He's described as five feet two inches tall to five feet seven inches tall and was wearing a black baseball cap, a dark hooded sweater, black running shoes and a pair of baggy, black-and-white plaid pants. He was also carrying an oversized, lime-green lunch cooler, OPP said.

The suspect was armed at the time, but the OPP have not said what kind of firearm he was carrying.

Bonnechere Valley mayor Jennifer Murphy told the Daily Observer yesterday the village was in a virtual lock down as police threw up barricades to pin the suspect into a cordon.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or Killaloe OPP at 1-800-310-1122.
