Solid showing from locals at EOSSAA

Area athletes won several events as eastern ontario high schools met here for two days of track and field competition last week.

In the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) Track and Field Championships, Upper Ottawa Valley athletes won 12 events.

General Panet's Julianna Barvestal finished fourth in the junior women's 80-metre hurdles. Opeongo's Riley Ann Schmidt took fourth in the junior women's long jump, followed by Barvestal and Madawaska Valley District High School's Karly Coulas. Schmidt also finished fifth in the junior women's 100-metre. Fellowes' Kyle Maher and Nick Chaput finished fourth and fifth respectively in the men's 100-metre ambulatory and 100-metre I&D disabilities. Lacie Cardiff took fourth in the women's 100-metre I&D disabilities and the 100-metre ambulatory.

Opeongo's Andrew McIntyre took fourth in the midget men's 800-metre, followed by Fellowes' Skylar Mellory (16th) and Mackenzie's Bradley Audet (17th). Opeongo's Michaela Kuno finished fifth place in the senior women's javelin throw, followed by Madawaska Valley's Aidan Henry in 12th. Fellowes' Chase Verch took seventh in the senior men's discus throw. Fellowes' Will Klawitter finished eighth in the midget men's 200-metre.

Bishop Smith's Anthony Davis took fourth in the midget men's shot put, followed by Fellowes' Kurtis Klatt in ninth place. Fellowes' Olivia Robinson took fourth in the senior women's high jump, followed by teammate Sarah Kelly (11th). Madawaska Valley's Rachel Recoskie finished in fourth place in the midget women's long jump and fifth in the javelin throw. Ogilvie later captured fourth place in the midget women's 3,000-metre, followed by General Panet's Abi Smith (14th) and Hannah Clarke (16th). Smith also placed 13th in the 1,500-metre.

Fellowes' Zoe Johnston took fifth in the junior women's 800-metre, followed by General Panet's Victoria Holtzau in seventh place, Madawaska Valley's Katrina Yantha (11th), and General Panet's Sydney Gen (15th). Johnston also took sixth in the 400-metre, followed by Holtzau (11th) and Martin (13th). Holtzau came in 10th in the junior women's 1,500-metre, followed by Jeanne-Lajoie's Giselle Groskleg (12th) and Gen (14th). Groskleg took ninth in the 3,000-metre, followed by Gen in 11th place. Paquette finished the junior 800-metre in sixth place, followed by Jeanne-Lajoie's Samuel Schroeder (14th). Paquette also came in fifth in the 1,500-metre.

Bishop Smith's Kali Robinson took fifth in the junior women's javelin throw, followed Fellowes' Ashley MacDonald (7th) and Panet's Taylor Watton (17th). Mackenzie's Tilly Greenfield completed the women's 1,500-metre steeplechase in fifth place and the 3,000-metre in seventh. Fellowes' Jacob Hardwick completed the midget men's 400-metre in fifth place, followed by Panet's Nathan Frampton (15th). Opeongo's Patrick Weller came in fifth in the midget men's 3,000-metre hurdles. Robinson also placed sixth in the junior women's shot put, followed by Fellowes' Shania Kuehl (10th).

Opeongo's Jamie Schultz took sixth in the midget men's javelin throw, followed by Fellowes' Will Frederick (15th) and Panet's Aiden Perkins (19th). Fellowes' Bryce Davidson took seventh in the junior men's high jump, followed by Opeongo's Connor Moss (10th) and Fellowes' Aaron VanHoof (12th). Mackenzie's Molly Steer took sixth in the senior women's 1,500-metre, followed by General Panet's Samantha Hicks (14th). Madawaska Valley's Megan Henry came in sixth in the midget women's triple jump. Moss finished seventh in the junior men's long jump, followed by Panet's Dalton Tucker in 11th place. Moss also finished seventh in the triple jump.

Schmidt also took seventh in the junior women's100-metre, followed by Coulas (16th). Bishop Smith's Meegan Couturier took seventh in the junior women's discus throw. Beauregard finished the senior men's 100-metre in seventh place and the 400-metre in 10th. Davis also took seventh in the midget men's discus throw, followed by Fellowes' Kurtis Klatt in eighth.

Fellowes' Avery Nagora took eighth in the junior men's discus throw, followed by Bishop Smith's Nathan Beauchamp (16th) and Fellowes' Nick Ethier (20th). Avery took 18th in the shot put. Opeongo's Jill Barr came in eighth in the midget women's high jump, followed by Fellowes' Cassie Cook (12th) and Sarah Treptow (15th). Pyke took eighth in the senior women's triple jump, followed by Madawaska's Hailey Voorand (15th) and Fellowes' Alyssa Kilby (17th). Mackenzie's Jessie Hewitt came in eighth in the senior men's long jump. Martin came in 10th in the senior women's 800-metre, followed by Mackenzie's Kendra Lance (13th). Cook also finished 20th in the javelin throw. Opeongo's Bailey Hein finished 15th in the junior men's 400-metre, while Bishop Smith's Sarah Langlois took 16th in the junior women's 300-metre hurdles.

Opeongo's Nathan Dulong came in ninth in the midget men's long jump, followed by Fellowes' Ben TerMarsch (11th) and Jonathan Rosien (16th). Mackenzie's Colin Goodwin came in 11th in the senior men's javelin throw. General Panet's Nathan Smith took 11th in the 2,000-metre steeplechase open. Fellowes' Katie Sloan finished 11th in the midget women's 800-metre, followed by General Panet's Hannah Clarke (20th) and Bishop Smith's Jacinta Slecker (21st). Voorand came in 12th in the senior women's long jump, followed by Fellowes' Victoria Bourdon (13th) and Austin (19th). Rosien finished 15th in the midget men's high jump. TerMarsch took 13th in the triple jump. Fellowes' Jacob Hardwick took 11th in the midget men's 1,500-metre, followed by Opeongo's Andrew McIntyre in 12th. Fellowes' Teran Nieman took 13th in the senior women's 400-metre.

Bishop Smith's Calvin Williams finished 15th in the midget men's 400-metre, while Opeongo's Sasha Smith took 18th in the midget women's 400-metre. Mackenzie's Jordan Keary finished 15th in the midget women's 1,500-metre. General Panet's Christina Ikerenge came in 22nd in the midget women's shot put. Fellowes' Scott Serviss came in 17th in the senior men's 3,000-metre. Fellowes' Ty Wendt took 18th in the junior men's javelin throw. Fellowes' Daesun Park finished 17th in the senior men's triple jump.
