15 county athletes headed to track and field provincials

Area high school athletes recently won five events in regional track and field competition, while 15 students will be moving onto provincial finals.

Local athletes put in outstanding performances at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) East Regionals Track and Field Championships held at the Mary Ann Sills Track in Belleville.

Max Serviss, of General Panet High School, won both the junior mens 1,500-metre run and the junior men’s 800-metre run. Fellowes High School’s Katie Klatt captured the senior women’s discus throw title, while Fellowes’ Alicia Tustin secured gold in the women’s 100-metre dash intellectual. Opeongo High School's Vanessa VanMassenhoven took gold in the midget women's discus throw. The General Panet men's relay team finished fourth out of 15 schools in the 4x400-metre relay open.

General Panet's Adam Paquette took home silver in the junior men's 3,000-metre run and eighth place in the junior men's 1,500-metre run. Fellowes' Madelene Kelly captured bronze in two events, the senior women's 1,500-metre and 800-metre run. Wesley Souliere, from Bishop Smith Catholic High School, came away with bronze in the senior men's discus throw, while Panet's Ty Lebannister earned a bronze medal in the senior men's 1,500-metre run. He also placed fourth in the senior men's 3,000-metre run.

Fellowes' Emma Colpittis captured fourth in the women's 100-metre dash. Bishop Smith's Kali Robinson took fourth in the junior women's javelin throw. Klatt also came in fourth in the senior women's shot put. General Panet's Aiden Perkins placed fourth in the midget men's shot put. Panet's Sam Serviss took in the men's 2,000-metre steeplechase open. He also placed sixth in the senior men's 3,000-metre run and the senior men's 1,500-metre run.

Jeanne-Lajoie's Erin Adam finished fifth in the midget women's 3,000-metre. She also took eighth in the midget women's 1,500-metre. Fellowes' Rachel Weisenberg came in fifth in the junior women's discus throw. Panet's Jeris Chalmers-Wiens came in sixth in the midget women's 200-metre dash. She also took 10th in the midget women's 400-metre dash. Opeongo's James Florent finished sixth in the midget men's discus throw, while his teammate Brett David took seventh in the senior men's discus throw.

Fellowes' Abby McDonald came in seventh in the junior women's 3,000-metre run and eighth in the junior women's 1,500-metre run. Mackenzie Community School's Pam Pyke took seventh in the senior women's long jump. Panet's Julianna Barvestal finished seventh in the junior women's 80-metre hurdles. Fellowes' Lacie Cardiff came in seventh in the women's 100-metre dash. Fellowes' Tim Gorr tied for seventh in the senior men's high jump.

Opeongo's Michaela Kuno took eighth in the senior women's javelin throw. Bishop Smith's Anthony Davis captured eighth in the midget men's shot put. Mackenzie's Molly Steer came in eighth in the senior women's 3,000-metre run and 10th in the senior women's 1,500-metre. Opeongo's Marissa Mulligan took eighth in the senior women's shot put.

Bishop Smith's Autumn Ogilvie came in ninth in the midget women's 3,000-metre run and 11th in the midget women's 1,500-metre run. Fellowes' Jacob Hardwick took ninth in the midget men's 3,000-metre run. General Panet's Brandon Royce finished ninth in the men's 2,000-metre steeplechase open and 14th in the senior men's 1,500-metre run.

Fellowes' Zoe Johnston placed 10th in the junior women's 800-metre. Panet's Samantha Martin finished 11th in the senior women's 400-metre dash. General Panet's Scott Mills took 11th in the senior men's 800-metre run. Fellowes' Kyle Maher and Nick Chaput finished 11th and 12th respectively in the men's 100-metre dash intellectual.

Panet's Travis Beauregard came in 12th in the senior men's 200-metre dash. Opeongo's Andrew McIntyre took 12th in the midget men's 800-metre run. Opeongo's Riley Ann Schmidt finished 12th in the junior women's long jump and 13th in the junior women's 100-metre dash. Fellowes' Olivia Robinson came in 13th in the senior women's high jump. Panet's Anna Austin took 15th in the senior women's 100-metre dash.
