Melissa Bishop kept up her winning streak with a new personal best at the Victoria International Track Classic with a time of 1:59.76.

With this victory she received the overall National Track League (NTL) title for women’s 800-metre runners.

Before competing in the Victoria Classic, Bishop competed in three other NTL tournaments this year: the Harry Jerome International Track Classic, the Toronto International Track and Field Games and the Edmonton International Track Classic.

Because of her successes, the Eganville runner was invited to a Diamond League race in London, England. The Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games took place at The Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from July 26 to 28.

This race will take place in the same stadium that Bishop was at last year for the Olympics.

“I’m pretty excited to go back. I only got to run there once last year, so I’m looking forward to going back,” said Bishop.

Once she is finished the Diamond League race, she will head over to Germany to meet up with the rest of Team Canada where they will train for about two weeks before they head to Moscow, Russia for the World Track and Field Championship Aug. 10 to 18.

While she comes up with a plan for her races, she always tries to relax before the actual race.

“I think I go into a lot of the races just trying to stay relaxed. I usually have a plan going into races about what I’m going to do. But the most important thing is to stay relaxed and remember just to have fun,” said Bishop.

If winning is any fun, she’s having a ball this season.
