Family fun at the Pembroke waterfront Sunday to mark Labour Day

By Christina Van Starkenburg

On Sunday Sept. 1 the Pembroke Waterfront will be filled with music, inflatable activities and people celebrating Labour Day.

The first annual Labour Day Family Fun Day is being put on by the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) with help from the other labour organizations within Renfrew County. The labour boards wanted to rekindle the meaning and excitement surrounding Labour Day and they decided that the Family Fun Day would be a good way to get people involved.

“We wanted to celebrate labour day weekend. Fiddle Park has always been the headliner for the weekend for the past 38 years, and although that incorporates some of the community it doesn't include everybody. So we wanted to bring something for the whole family,” said Steve Gauthier the president of UNDE local branch 629.

The event will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the Sunday, and in order to make it fun for the whole family there will be a rock wall, an inflatable obstacle course, an open mike, and a concert by Chris Gardner and Whitewater.
