OTTAWA — Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a 31-year-old woman, whose naked body was found in the Rideau River.

For several hours Wednesday, a team of emergency personel searched for evidence related to the body, which was reported by a witness Tuesday morning.

The body was found lodged in a rocky ridge in the water, upstream from the rapids that flow near Carleton University. There was no identification on the body.

The discovery rattled students on campus, with memories of Carleton student Nadia Kajouji's 2008 suicide in mind.

There were signs of trauma to the body, and major crime investigators were called in as the death was deemed suspicious.

Police were awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine whether it may have been a homicide.

That post-mortem examination Wednesday ruled out foul play, police said.

The victim will not be identified.
