Mother Nature may help or hinder efforts to contain a wildfire that has forced the evacuation of nearly 100 people southwest of Prince George, B.C.

The Weather Network is reporting that heavy rain, hail and strong wind gusts are expected to hit an area not far from the Bobtail Lake Fire on the weekend.

A few scenarios could play out if the forecast comes to pass.

Rain could fight the flames but heavy wind could be detrimental, causing the existing fire to spread, the station said Friday. Lightning strikes could spark additional fires as well.

The network said that on Friday, firefighters were making headway in the battle against the fire which started burning nearly two weeks ago.

The blaze has grown 25,000 hectares and is 65% contained. More than 330 people are fighting the fire, along with 12 helicopters and eight air tankers.
