Mine worker killed near Timmins, Ont.

TIMMINS, Ont. -- A young woman was killed while working in a mine east of the city Saturday.

In a statement, SAS St. Andrew Goldfields said that "Alexie Dallaire-Vincent, 22, was involved in an underground rail haulage accident, which fatally injured her."

The accident happened more than 900 feet below ground at the company's Holt Mine.

"We are deeply saddened by this news and our sincere condolences go out to the family, fellow workers, and friends," Duncan Middlemiss, president and CEO of SAS St. Andrew Goldfields, said in the statement. "(St. Andrew Goldfields) is co-operating with the ongoing investigation, as well as providing support to family and employees at the mine site."

The OPP, the labour ministry and the company are all investigating.
