Phil Collins has never forgiven Paul McCartney for an awkward encounter at Buckingham Palace back in 2002.
The former Genesis frontman admits he stopped being a fan of the ex-Beatle upon meeting Sir Paul and his then-wife Heather Mills during a celebration marking the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
Collins claims he asked his hero to sign a copy of Hunter Davies’ book The Beatles and was left a little jarred by the rocker’s condescending response.
“I said, ‘Hey Paul, do you mind signing this for me?’ and he said, ‘Oh Heather, our little Phil’s a bit of a Beatles fan’,” the Against All Odds singer told The Sunday Times. “And I thought, ‘You f---, you f---.’ Never forgot it.”
“McCartney was one of my heroes. But he has this thing when he’s talking to you, where he makes you feel... (like), ‘I know this must be hard for you, because I’m a Beatle. I’m Paul McCartney and it must be very hard for you to actually be holding a conversation with me’.”
