O No, Canada: Singer flubs anthem at Raptors game in New York

BROOKLYN, N.Y.

Sunday’s Raptors-Nets game got off to an ugly start, but none of the sub-par moments could top what happened before the game even began.

Anthem singer Amber Iman, from the Broadway smash hit Hamilton, had to freestyle O Canada, claiming afterward the prompter went out and that she had only hurriedly learned the lyrics.

Instead, she substituted words like: “We sing our hearts for three.”

What’s next, carrying the Canadian flag out upside down at a World Series game?

Before anyone knew about the prompter failure, there was considerable laughter about the performance. Raptors players weren’t sure what was going on.

“It was horrible. You know what, I’m going to leave that alone,” Kyle Lowry said after the game.

“That anthem was a lot different than I’ve heard over the last five years. A lot different. Her voice was beautiful, but the anthem, the song, the words? Have her come to Toronto, we’ll give her somebody to give her some lessons.”
