'Batman' script being rewritten from scratch: Report

If you were hoping to see Ben Affleck donning the cape and cowl for his solo Batman film next year, you’re going to have to put those wishes on hold.

/Film is reporting that the screenplay for The Batman is being completely rewritten “from the ground up” and likely won’t start shooting until sometime in 2018.

Affleck, Chris Terrio and DC comics writer Geoff Johns worked on the original story, which would have seen the Dark Knight going up against Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke.

Warner Bros. was hoping to have the film in theatres sometime next year.

Citing Variety’s Justin Kroll, /Film says The Batman’s director Matt Reeves (who took over from Affleck recently) won’t have time to start casting until after he is done promoting this summer’s War for the Planet of the Apes, so it’s increasingly likely the film won’t start shooting until 2018.

Affleck is due to reprise his role as Batman in Justice League this November — the fifth film in the DC Extended Cinematic Universe after Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and this June’s Wonder Woman.

He recently completely a stint in rehab for alcohol addiction, which EW says will not affect his involvement in the standalone superhero film.
