Valour, Equinoxe score big wins at EOSSAA track and field

KINGSTON - Led by Austin Ingram, Valour High School has captured their third straight Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) track and field title.

The visually impaired athlete won both of his events taking first place in the 100-meter dash

and 800-meter dash. Ingram also anchored the silver medalist Midget Boys 4x100-metre relay. During the meet of eastern Ontario high schools held at Thousand Islands Secondary School on May 19, Renfrew County athletes once more excelled winning 13 events.

The top five finishers in each category advanced to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) East Regionals championships in Ottawa. Sophie Levasseur, from Ecole L'Equinoxe, claimed the midget girls 1,500-metre and 3,000-metre runs and qualified for the 800-metre run. Eve Denault, from Fellowes High School, won the junior girls shot and discus throw.

Madwaska Valley District High School sprinter Jonathan Stoppa took gold in the senior boys 1,500-metre run and took silver in the 3,000-metre run. Valour's Nick Bauernschmitt claimed the senior boys 800-metre run and qualified for the 400-metre dash. Equinoxe's Ethan Fitch took gold in the midget boys high jump, while Eily Rauliuk-Dunn, from Mackenzie Community School, won the senior girls 800-metre run.

Brayden Schimmens, from Bishop Smith Catholic High School, claimed gold in the midget boys discus throw, while Josie Doering, from Renfrew Collegiate Institute (RCI) won the midget girls discus throw. RCI's Luke Hansen finished first in the midget boys long jump.

Valour's Sophie Warren claimed silver in the senior girls 400-metre dash and 800-metre run. Bishop Smith's Alexis Foley won silver in the junior girls long jump, bronze in the junior girls 100-metre dash and fourth place in the junior girls 200-metre dash. Valour's Tana Doughty finished second place in the junior girls javelin throw, while Valour's Mackenzie Douglas took second in the junior boys javelin throw.

Valour's Hayden Weisberg claimed second in the junior boys long jump. Laura Yantha, from Madawaska Valley, finished second plae in the senior girls 3,000-metre run. Erin Sweeney, from Opeongo High School, took silver in the midget girls shot put. Valour's Dante Hoffman finished second in the junior boys 800-metre run. Valour's Mackenzie Douglas captured silver in the junior boys javelin throw.

Valour's Ethan Bullivant claimed silver in the senior boys discus throw and qualified for the shot put. Valour's Charles Osborne took second in the boys 2,000-metre steeplechase open. Olivia McIntyre, from Arnprior District High School, finished second in the senior girls 400-metre hurdles, while Arnprior's Justin Smith took second in the senior boys shot put. Valour's midget boys squad, consisting of Cole Gauthier, Jack Robinson, Caleb Poirier and Austin Ingram, finished second in 4x100-metre relay.
