The Petawawa Legion was abuzz with laughter, food and celebratory chatter on Thursday night as the Petawawa Predators Swim Club came together to hold its year-end celebration and awards night.

Following the obligatory feast and cake, awards were passed out to the club's top performers in a wide variety of categories.

In the Swimathon, the winning swimmer was the first to complete 200 laps within two hours. For the girls, Emily Norman took the title for the 10-and-under category, Sydney Ventress came in first in the 11-12 division, Tara Hetherington won the 13-14 group and Charlotte Mercer got top spot in the 15-and-up camp. For the boys, Jacob Grant was first place in the 11-12 division, Max Boyle took the prize for the 13-14s and Alex Boyle won the 15-and-up prize.

Megan Rondeau and Katheryn Nicol were recognized as the club's most improved swimmers of the year, and Sarah Stecey was awarded the rookie of the year title.

The Coach's Award for Sportsmanship and Contribution to Team Spirit went to Skye Crouzat, and top Swimathon fundraising honours went to Jeris Chalmers-Wein, Lydia Patterson and Alycia Donovan.

The Tyle Daniel Maidement Memorial Citizenship Award is a special prize introduced by Tiler Daniel Madement's mother, Lisa, a former swimmer, in memory of her son. The award is presented to "the individual with an overall great personality," who was "the type of person that she hoped her son Tyler would have grown into." This year's recipient of the Tyler Daniel Madement Memorial Citizenship Award was given to Jeremy Daigle.

The "4-A" award, for achievement, ability, attendance and attitude, was given to Tara Hetherington, and Elizabeth "Libby" Hetherington received the Top Scorer honour.

Finally, the highest honour of the night, Swimmer of the Year, went to Jonathan Nicol.
