Rockwood, Highview dominate Grade 6 track

Rockwood Public School and Highview Public School dominated during county elementary track and field competition here last Wednesday.

The Renfrew County Elementary Interscholastic Athletic Association (RCEIAA) West Division's track and field championships returned to the sports field at Valour K-12 School. Postponed by a day due to rain, squads of athletes were anxious to test their skills in numerous disciplines. After placing second in 2016, Rockwood claimed the top spot in combined team scores with 393 points, followed in a close second by Highview with 275 points. Rounding out the top five schools were Mackenzie Community School, with 245 points, Valour JK-12 School, with 221 points, and Champlain Discovery Public School, with 200 points.

Here are the top three finishers for each Grade 6 event:

In the girls 100-metre dash, Rockwood's Madison Stevens captured first place, followed by Champlain's Alyssa Lemmon and Sierra Bailey, from Pine View Public School. Mackenzie's Eden Jefferson won the girls 200-metre dash, followed by Rockwood's Reese Edwards and Teagan Downey, from Ecole L'Equinoxe. Mackenzie's Wren Rauliuk-Dunn claimed the girls 400-metre dash, followed by Rockwood's Olivia Borne and Valour's Taylor Novosedlik.

Rockwood finished in first place in the 4x100-metre girls relay, with Mackenzie taking second place and Champlain Discovery coming in third. Wren Rauliuk-Dunn also took first in the 800-metre run, followed by Addison Graham, from Holy Name Catholic School, and L'Equinoxe's Rory Wall. Highview's Lauren Pappin captured the girls high jump, followed by Eden Jefferson and Alyssa Lemmon.

In the girls long jump, Rhylan Black, from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, claimed first place, followed by Champlain Discovery's Heyleigh Degeer and Reese Edwards. Rockwood's Abby Lundy took first in the girls shot put, followed by Holy Name's Judy Ritchie and Champlain Discovery's Emily Klentz. Highview's Allison Cloutier finished first in the girls javelin throw, followed by Rockwood's Bailey Jodoin and Judy Ritchie.

In the boys 100-metre dash, Rockwood's Noah Jenner captured first, followed Highview's Jahorbi Morris and Champlain Discovery's Nico Termarsh. Noah Jenner also finished first in the boys 200-metre dash, followed by Champlain Discovery's James Goudie and Valour's Noah Bernardin. Nico Termarsh also claimed first in the boys 400-metre dash, followed by L'Equinoxe's Nathaniel Levasseur and Highview's Evan Varvaresas.

In the boys 4x100-metre relay, Highview crossed the finish line first, followed by Mackenzie Community and Champlain Discovery. In the boys 800-metre run, Evan Varvaresas took first place, followed by Isaac Holt, from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, and Nathaniel Levasseur. Rockwood's Aiden Maves took first place in the boys high jump, followed by Champlain Discovery's Jacob Van Camp and Highview's Charlie Chubak.

In the boys long jump, Lourdes' Isaac Holt claimed first place, followed by Evan Morah, from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, and Mackenzie's Leo Steer. Rockwood's Logan Walker finished first in the boys shot put, followed by Ryan Dowd, from St. Francis of Assisi, and Lourdes' Nolan Castello. Logan Walker captured first in the boys javelin throw, followed by Lourdes' Jesse Kelly and Champlain Discovery's Ved Vyas.
