Grade 7 athletes impress at County track and field

Grade 7 athletes put on an impressive performance during Renfrew County's elementary track and field finals held here on June 7.


The Renfrew County Elementary Interscholastic Athletic Association (RCEIAA) track and field championships were hosted once more at the Valour sports field. Rockwood claimed the top spot in team points. Out of 15 schools competing, Jeanne-Lajoie led the middle of the pack with 158 points, followed by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, with 125 points, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School, with 119 points, and Pine View Public School, with 110 points.

Here are the top three finishers for each Grade 7 event:

In the girls 100-metre dash, Anna Cowan, from Highview Public School, captured first place, followed by Highview's Malaia Morris and Genevieve MacKay, from Valour K-12 School. Anna Cowan won the girls 200-metre dash, followed by Malaia Morris and Lydia Dillenbeek, from Mackenzie Community School. Sorrows' Haley Maggio took the girls 400-metre dash, followed by Lydia Dillenbeek and Highview's Kylie Rieger. Highview's Heidi Hugli also came in first place in the 800-metre run, followed by Kylie Rieger and Lourdes' Claire Edmonds.

In the girls 4x100-metre relay, Highview secured a first-place finish, followed by Valour and Our Lady of Sorrows. In the girls high jump, Chloe Fitch, from Ecole L'Equinoxe, captured first, followed by Jeanne-Lajoie's Sophie Graydon and Valour's Kalee Granter. Haley Maggio won the girls long jump, followed by Sorrows' Sophie Collier and Valour's Skye Crouzat. In the girls shot put, Rockwood's Lizzy Plath took first place, followed by Madison Harris, from Beachburg Public School, and Pine View's Aurora Lushman. Highview's Yulyen Fraser captured first in the girls javelin throw, followed by Rockwood's Regan Hanatschek and Rockwood's Katie Biggs.

In the boys 100-metre dash, Pine View's Jaedon Mathieu took first place, followed by Sorrows' Tyler Luczinski and Rockwood's Jacob Morel. Mackenzie's Sam Steer won the boys 200-metre dash, followed by Pine View's Willen Jones and Jeanne-Lajoie's Blake Bower. Jacob Morel claimed first in the boys 400-metre dash, followed by Lourdes' Ryan Throop and Michael Ritchie, from St. Francis of Assisi.

In the boys 800-metre run, Lourdes' Hunter Selle took first place, followed by Sorrows' Malachi Quilty and Valour's Mitchell Smith. In the boys 4x100-metre relay, Our Lady of Sorrows came across the finish line in first place, followed by Rockwood and Mackenzie. Champlain Discovery's Riley Logan captured first place in the boys high jump, followed by Rockwood's Owen Legree and Rockwood's Keigan Gogolin.

In the boys long jump, Hunter Selle took first place, followed by Jaedon Mathieu and Jeanne-Lajoie's Ayden Hawthorne. Sorrows' Devon King won the boys shot put, followed by Champlain Discovery's Ryan Moore and Rockwood's Hunter Roggie. Willen Jones captured the boys javelin throw, followed by Mackenzie's Braydon Wilson-Taylor and Valour's Brody Gillard.
