MONTREAL — The health of an acrobat is improving after he fell about five metres during a circus performance in Montreal.

Ambulance workers who responded to the scene Tuesday night say the performer was unconscious after a major blow to the head during a show that is part of the city’s annual circus festival.

Festival organizers said in a statement today the man’s injuries are no longer considered life-threatening even though he has severe cranial trauma.

A provincial health and safety commission says the accident occurred when his head struck a beam during a manoeuvre.

The commission says the 41-year-old was not wearing a harness and no safety net was in place.

It is not clear what caused the fall.
