Grade 8 athletes compete at County track and field

PETAWAWA – Grade 8 athletes excelled in a competive day of Renfrew County elementary track and field.

 

The Renfrew County Elementary Interscholastic Athletic Association (RCEIAA) track and field championships were hosted on June 7 at the Valour sports field. Rockwood Public School claimed the top spot in team points. Out of 15 schools competing, the final third of schools in terms of team points were Ecole L'Equinoxe, Beachburg Public Schhol, St. Francis of Assisi, Holy Name Catholic School and Our Lady of Grace.

Here are the top three finishers for each Grade 8 event:

In the girls 100-metre dash, Chrissy Rowe, from Valour K-12 School, claimed first place, followed by Rockwood's Emma Peever and Chloe Childerhose, from Pine View Public School. Valour's Trinity Ellis won the girls 200-metre dash, followed by Gillian Findlay, from Champlain Discovery Public School, and Faith Fitzpatrick, from Bishop Smith Catholic High School. Louisa Fritzsche, from Mackenzie Community School, took first in the girls 400-metre dash, followed by Jeanne-Lajoie's Samantha Csistzu and Pine View's Jessica Yemen. In the girls 800-metre run, Louisa Fritzsche captured first place, followed by Jessica Yemen and Jeanne-Lajoie's Grace Bradley.

In the girls 4x100-metre relay, Valour came in first place, followed by Champlain Discovery and Rockwood. Champlain Discovery's Makayla Schison took first place in the girls high jump, followed by Chrissy Rowe and Liz Pfeiffer, from Highview Public School. Mackenzie's Andrea Geiger claimed first in the girls long jump, followed by Gillian Findlay and Chloe Childerhose. Rockwood's Cassidy McEvoy won the girls shot put, followed by Rockwood's Payton Gilchrist and Champlain Discovery's Sarah Elfitori. Valour's Bobbi Lavoie captured first in the girls javelin throw, followed by Valour's Amber Chubbs and Jeanne-Lajoie's July Cobus. In the girls open 1,500-metre run, Samantha Csistzu finished in first place, followed by Highview's Heidi Hugli and Grace Bradley.

In the boys 100-metre dash, Rockwood's Myles Rowe captured first place, followed by Valour's Josh Reid and Mackenzie's Gary Liu. Bishop Smith's Jacob Simana won the boys 200-metre dash, followed by Valour's Nick Crevier and Jeanne-Lajoie's William Pigeon. Highview's Lucas Behnke took first in the boys 400-metre dash, followed by Pine View's Connor Bateman and Mackenzie's Syed Bukhari.

Jeanne-Lajoie's Rudy Saal claimed first in the boys 800-metre run, followed by Bishop Smith's Ryan Unrau and Bishop Smith's Connor Rielly.

In the boys 4x100-metre relay, Valour crossed the finish line in first place, followed by Rockwood and Mackenzie Community. In the boys high jump, Rockwood's Braden Kuehl claimed first place, followed by Josh Reid and Mackenzie's Caelan Dodd. Highview's Jacob Dargus won the boys shot put, followed by Braden Kuehl and Rockwood's Denver Krieger-Gruntz. Pine View's Sean Doughty captured first in the boys javelin throw, followed by Valour's Nourine Bentoumi and Jacob Dargus. Rudy Saal came across the finish line in first place in the boys open 1,500-metre run, followed by Bishop Smith's Justin Wrigglesworth and Jeanne-Lajoie's Noah Brennan.
