PEMBROKE -

Young girls are encouraged to Live It Up this fall.

The Live It Up - Empowering Young Girls program is well underway, but registration is still open to any girls – between the ages of 11 to 13 years old – who are looking to learn about healthy living through fun activities and in a welcoming environment.

The program promotes living a healthy lifestyle for young girls, teaching them that how they feel on the inside directly impacts how they look and feel on the outside. It introduces the participants to non-traditional activities and challenges them to set their own personal goals and definitions of success.

The program engages the girls in a number of different activities that include yoga, pilates, dance, running, workshops on healthy eating and journaling through art.

Discussions are also a part of the free program, and range from talks about body image to dating and relationships as well as family issues and stress management.

With Live It Up taking place at Elevate’s Homework and Fitness Cafe (located at the Phoenix Centre), participants are also encouraged to use the space to do their homework, take a break and clear their heads with a good work-out session. After 30 minutes of homework or working out, the youth are invited to enjoy a free smoothie.

The studio and the programs run out of it is being covered by funding raised by the Krista Johnson Memorial Run for Change, named in honour of Laurie Johnson’s daughter.

The Fitness Studio is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., as well as Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. Yoga classes take place Monday night at 7 p.m. and is open to any guys or girls between the ages of 11 to 17.
