Fatal LV fire being investigated

LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP. - The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate a fatal fire which occurred on Zanders Road Monday morning.

A neighbour called to report the fire around 11:30 a.m. after seeing a barn on fire at the Zanders Road property. Emergency responders arrived on the scene quickly, led by the Laurentian Valley Fire Department.

Also responding were members of the Renfrew County Paramedic Service and Victims Services Renfrew County.

Constable Shawn Peever of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP said the police received a call about a structure fire at 11:42 a.m., and when they arrived the fire department was on the scene dealing with a barn fire.

He said he can confirm one adult female was found deceased on the scene. Her identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified and would be heading to the scene to investigate.

The barn was leveled by the fire and the burnt remains of a car could be seen beside the structure. The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.

Police and firefighters remain on the scene as the investigation continues.
