Lumber Kings defeat Smiths Falls Bears 3-2

By Celina Ip

The Lumber Kings battled it out on the ice for a 3-2 overtime win against the Smiths Falls Bears on Nov. 3.

The game kicked off slowly with no action until the 10-minute mark when Lumber Kings’ Andrew Meininger opening up the scoring with an unassisted goal.

A few minutes later, Kings’ Matthew Walilko took advantage of a power play opportunity to double up his team’s lead 2-0 (assisted by Noah Rowland and Zachary Cross).

Heading into the second period, the score remained frozen as the Bears put up a stronger defence while the puck bounced back and forth between both ends of the arena.

It wasn’t until the final period that Rockland jumped onto the scoreboard with a goal from Ryan Gibson (assisted by Mitchell Larabie and Kyle Dowdall).

By the 12-minute mark, with the Kings still leading 2-1, Bears’ Hayden Hart took control of the puck (assisted by Hunter Garlasco and Marc Shannon) to nab a game-tying goal.

With a few minutes to go, both teams displayed equal drive and defensive skills as they aggressively battled for power.

As the buzzer sounded, with the score remaining tied at 2-2, the game moved into overtime.

Unfortunately for the Bears, their newfound confidence was not enough to overpower the Kings.

The Pembroke team took home the glory as Jarrad Vroman scored the game-winning goal at 1:46 into overtime.

Three stars: The first star was Kings’ Jarrad Vroman followed by the Kings’ Alex Horawski and the third star was Ryan Gibson of the Smiths Falls Bears.
