The Whitewater Kings defeated the Char-Lan Rebels 7-3 on Saturday night, as more than 100 fans filled the Cobden Astrolabe Arena to cheer for their hometown team.
From start to finish, the Kings confidently remained in control as they delivered an onslaught on shots against the Rebels.
Despite the Rebels’ efforts, their goalies were only able to block 25 of the 32 shots fired at their net.
On the other side of the arena, Kings’ netminder Darian McTavish expertly shut out 22 of the 25 shots that rained upon him throughout the game.
The Kings consistently supported one another with assists and defensive duties around their net, with several players earning multiple points through their strong efforts.
The action kicked off with Kings’ Peter White lighting up the scoreboard with the first goal of the night (assisted by Jacob McIntyre and Reid Barber) less than one minute into the period. A few minutes later, Kings’ Jared Weber doubled his team’s score, with assists from Gage Tremblay and Andre Simard. Thereafter, White brought home two more goals to bump his team up to a 4-0 lead, thanks to excellent support from teammates McIntyre and Barber. It wasn’t until the 15-minute mark, with the Kings leading 4-0, that Rebels’ Derek Lister netted his team’s first goal of the game (assisted by Evan Huntley).
The second period saw the Kings rack up two more goals, burying the Rebels in a hole much too deep to get out of. Kings’ star player Peter White netted his fourth goal of the game, once again with assists from Barber and McIntyre. A few minutes later, Rebels’ Dylan Sequin took control of the puck and netted his team’s second goal of the night (assisted by Ryan Lamer and Cole Besner). Unfortunately for the Rebels’, their powerhouse opponents savagely responded with yet another goal, sunk by Quinn Vanhoof (assisted by Dylan Kuehl).
Into the third and final period, Rebels’ Brennan Markell netted his team’s third goal (with assists from Derek Lister and Sam Ferland), but Kings’ Michael Karas (assisted by Reid Barber) savagely fired back with another goal to solidify his team’s 7-3 victory.
Three stars: The first star was Kings’ Peter White followed by the Kings’ Reid Barber and the third star was Derek Lister of the Rebels.
