Valley Storm, Voyageurs victorious at Silver Stick

The opening weekend of the 2017 Pembroke Silver Stick ended with two exciting championship finals that saw the Valley Storm and the Muskrat Voyageurs hoisting silverware.
The Voyageurs resurrected a victory in the Novice ‘C’ championship after the Valley Storm rallied to tie the game in the third period Sunday at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre. The Storm got their revenge in the Atom ‘C’ division final shutting out the Voyageurs 3-0. The Brockville Junior Braves defeated the Gananoque Islanders 4-2 to capture the Atom ‘B’ championship.
In the Novice ‘C’ final, Cedrik Dionne scored two goals early in the game to give the Voyageurs a 2-0 lead. The Storm didn’t go away quietly with Gage Martinat and Riley Comerford tying the game in the third period. Gaining a power play, the Voyageurs’s Jakob Dumouchel scored the game winner with three minutes left. Dionne then added an insurance marker, again on the power play. Muskrat netminder Nolan Lang picked up the win.
In the Novice 'C' semi-final, the Voyageurs blanked the Douro Dukes 6-0 with goals from Dionne, with two, Andrew Enright, with two, Jaxson Allmand and Colton Vereyken. In the other semi-final, the Storm defeated the Mariposa Lightning 6-3 with Martinat scoring all six Storm goals. In the quarter-final, the Voyageurs shutout the Deep River Knights 6-0 with goals from Dionne, with the hat trick, Wyatt Lang, Allmand and Dumouchel. The Storm knocked off Tweed 4-2 with scoring from Jarred Rathwell, Lincoln Kuehl and Martinat, with two. Earlier the Storm had edged out the Douro Dukes 4-3. In other Novice 'C' local results, the Deep River Knights fell to Mariposa 9-1, while the Voyageurs blanked Sturgeon Lake 8-0.
The Valley Storm dominated in the Atom ‘C’ final with Cash Welk scoring twice, while Aydan Flegal added a single. Storm goalie Logan Heideman took the win. The Storm rolled over the Powassan Hawks 6-1 in the semi-final with goals from Wyatt Hicks, Andrew Prince, Kale Gorgerat, Welk and Flegal, with two goals. In the other semi-final, the Voyageurs beat the Douro Dukes 5-1 with goals from Nathan Collette, with two goals, Jaxon Cooke, Owen Lynch and Kyle St Amour.
In earlier Atom 'C' games, the Voyageurs shutout the Sturgeon Lake Thunder 7-0 with Collette scoring four goals, while Lynch contributed two and St Amour added a single. The Storm defeated the Deep River Knights 2-1 with goals from Gorgerat and Flegal. Malik Chester scored for Deep River. The Storm tied the Mariposa Lighting 1-1 and were shutout by the Douro Dukes. the Voyageurs shutout Deep River 2-0.
In the Atom 'B' division, the Pembroke Kings were edged out by the Mississippi Thunder Kings 2-1 with Cooper Geddes scoring for Pembroke. The Pembroke Kings earlier defeated Frontenac 3-1 with two goals from Geddes and a single from Emery Spital. Pembroke also tied Kemptville 3-3 with goals from Cole Simard, Geddes and Jayke Spence. Mississippi shutout the Petawawa Patriots 6-0. Later, the Patriots were blanked by the Char Lan Rebels 6-0.
