Peewee Silver Stick weekend under way

The curtain has risen on the region's Peewee teams in the second weekend of the 33rd annual Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament.

 

The opening day of the Bill Kutschke Peewee ‘B,’ ‘C’ Weekend saw games split between the Pembroke and Area Community Centre (PACC) and the Pembroke Memorial Centre (PMC)

In Peewee B, the Pembroke Kings quickly showed who was boss after dispatching the Ennismore Eagles 6-0.

Nolan Ranger scored twice and picked up an assist for the Kings, with Reilly Rochon scoring and getting two assists, Noah Geddes and Jared Foley each scored once and earned an assist, with Nathaniel Levasseur scoring a goal.

Thomas Pigeon and Travis St. Amour earned two assists each, and Landon Mackay piocked up an assist as well.

The Petawawa Patriots first game of the tournament versus Osgoode at 7 p.m ended to late for publication.

Elsewhere in Peewee B, the Campbellford Colts defeated the Renfrew Timberwolves 3-2, the Brockville Braves blanked the South Grenville Rangers 5-0, the Arnprior Packers were blanked 2-0 by the Ottawa West Golden Knights, the NGS Braves and the Alexandria Glens remained tied 1-1 after three overtimes.

In Peewee C, the Deep River Knights remained tied with the Brock Wild 2-2 despite three overtime periods. William Milks was first on the scoreboard for Deep River in the second period, assisted by Jordan Hartwig; while late in the third period, Logan Kellow scored to force overtime, with assistance from Ibrahim Chowdhury.

The Valley Storm also found itself tied 2-2 after three overtime periods failed to resolve the issue in their game with the Mariposa Lightning. Seamus McHale put the Storm up 1-0 in the opening period, with Curtis Fabian and Conner Recoskie earning assists. After Mariposa tied the game in the second period, Gus Swick retook the lead 2-1, scoring with the assistance of Braeden Yarmel.

The Lightning forced overtime with a goal in the third period.

The Muskrat Voyageurs were defeated 5-3 by the Douro Dukes,

The game was tied 2-2 by the end of the first period, thank to goals by Ben Beland and Hugo Boisvert, who each picked up assists in the period. George Dedo and Nolan Costello were also credited with assists on the goals.

The Dukes scored three times – once in the second period, twice in the third – to put them up 5-2. Brendan Lynch scored unassisted for Muskrat near the end of the period for what was the last goal of the game.

Elsewhere in Peewee C, the Sturgeon Lake Thunder tied the Tweed Hawks 1-1 following three overtime periods.

The outcome of the rest of Friday's Peewee C games including the 9 p.m. games of Muskrat versus the Valley Storm and Deep River versus Powassan, occurred too late for publication.

On Saturday at the PACC, Pembroke will face South Stormont at 8 a.m., Deep River plays Tweed at noon, Petawawa tangles with Mississippi at 1 p.m., and Muskrat facing Marposa at 9 p.m.

Over at the PMC, Valley Storm deals with Douro at 1 p.m., Pembroke faces Metcalfe at 2 p.m., Muskrat tangles with Sturgeon Lake at 3 p.m., Deep River duels with Douro at 7 p.m., Petawawa plays Stittsville at 8 p.m., and Valley Storm storms Tweed at 9 p.m.

The playoff rounds start at both arenas Sunday at 10 a.m. starting with the Peewee B quarterfinals, followed by the C semi-finals at noon, and the B semi-finals at 1 p.m..

The Peewee C final is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the PACC, with the Peewee B final at 4 p.m.
