Whitewater KIngs down Hawks 4-1

By Stephen Uhler, The Daily Observer

COBDEN - The Whitewater Kings keep on rolling as the Junior B team works on wrapping up its first regular season.

Saturday night, the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 Kings beat the Winchester Hawks 4-1 in the second last home game of the year.

It was a special night in that the Kings took the time to honour the Muskrat Voyageurs, the minor hockey team Whitewater supports through 50/50 draws and other promotions.

The game itself got off to a fast start as Jacob McIntyre blasted in the first goal of the game a half minute from the opening faceoff. Michael Karas picked up the assist.

The Hawks responded early in the second period as Joel Driscoll tied things up 1-1 within the first half minute of play, with the assistance of Kristian Palmer and Gabriel Morin.

A half minute later, the Kings retook the lead, as Chad Moore scored, with the backing of Jared Campitelli and Kiefer Levasseur. This was followed by Whitewater scoring two more goals over the course of the period, with Peter White scoring eight and a half minutes in to make it 3-1, with assists going to Nicholas Olmstead and McIntyre, then Karas finding the back of the net with the game winner, with the able assistance of White and McIntyre.

The third period remained scoreless.

Kevin Proulx defended Whitewater's net by deflecting 31 shots, while his Winchester counterpart Darien Johnson made 28 saves.

The Whitewater Kings hit the road Friday evening to visit Perth to tangle with the Blue Wings. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Kings will be playing their last home game of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 7 p.m. in Cobden's Astrolabe Arena. They will be hosting the Carleton Place Junior Canadians.
