Fellowes, Bishop Smith, OHS advance in curling

Local high schools took the sheets last Wednesday to compete for the Renfrew County curling championship title.

 

The Pembroke Curling Club hosted the Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association (UOVHSAA) Curling Championships which saw Fellowes, Bishop Smith and Opeongo all advance to the next round. The Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) finals in Cornwall on Feb. 20.

Receiving a buy, the Fellowes squad of Ben Brunatti, Cole Lacroix-Lyon, Harrison Sitland and Neil Jennings recently won the Gore Regionals in Maxwell, Ontario and will next compete at the Gore Provincial championship in Sarnia, Ontario on Feb. 17 before moving on to EOSSAA.

In round robin action, Bishop Smith Catholic High School’s girl squad defeated Opeongo (15-2) and Jeanne-Lajoie (13-1). The team is comprised of Abby Warren, Kayla Donovan, Mariaah Barnes, Ashley Lipke and Renee Fleurant.

In the mixed curling division, Opeongo dispatched Fellowes 7-5. The team is comprised of Andrew Moore, Stephanie Heideman, Erin Mckenchnie and Connor Heideman.
