Pembroke Lumber Kings blast Kanata Lasers 5-3 in Renfrew
RENFREW - The Pembroke Lumber Kings scored an impressive 5-3 win against the Kanata Lasers on Saturday night at a neutral site game at the Ma-Te-Way arena in Renfrew.
A few minutes into the opening period, the Lumber Kings’ Matthew Barnaby capitalized on passes by Casey Rhodes and Jacob Kamps to sneak the puck past Kanata Lasers’ Logan Bateman to launch the Lumber Kings and light up the scoreboard with the first goal of the game.
By the 17-minute mark, Bennett Stockdale of the Lasers worked with teammates Will Larsen and Chad Merrell to tie up the score 1-1.
A mere 20 seconds later, the Lumber Kings broke the tie and regained their one-point lead with Malcolm Arseneau netting the goal off passes from Brendan Browne and Andrew Meininger.
Following a scoreless second period, the Lumber Kings kicked off the third with Noah Maika bumping his team up to a 3-1 lead, with assistance from Mason Emoff and Peter Falivena.
Three minutes later, the Lasers’ took advantage of a power-play opportunity as Chad Merrell drew Kanata back within one, with assistance from Jack Quinn and Tanner Schroeder.
The Lumber Kings held on for the remaining nine minutes of the game, extending their lead to 4-2 on a goal from Jared Weber (assisted by Matteas Derraugh and Noah Maika), before the Lasers’ Trevor Poeze (assisted by Bennett Stockdale and Eric Sutherland) brought his team back within one.
Lumber King Casey Rhodes would provide the Pembroke team with one more goal to secure a solid 5-3 victory.
