LAURENTIAN VALLEY – An early afternoon collision at Highway 17 and B-Line Road has claimed a life.

The Wednesday accident between a passenger vehicle and a commercial one resulted in one person being confirmed deceased at the scene, according to Constable Shawn Peever, community services officer with the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

He said the identity of the deceased won't be released until the family is notified.

There is no word yet on how many people were in either vehicle at the time of the collision.

In the meantime, both Highway 17 and B-Line Road, will remain closed while police investigate the accident. Peever said Technical Collision Investigators will be on the scene to conduct the investigation.

“I expect the highways to be closed right into the evening,” he said.

A lot of east bound traffic on Highway 17 is being diverted through Pembroke along Boundary Road. The Trans Canada is closed between Highway 41 and Round Lake Road, with marked detours put in place. B-Line Road is closed between Round Lake Road and Sandy Beach Road until further notice.

Members from the Laurentian Valley and Petawawa Fire Departments attended the scene in addition to members of the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service.

Further details and updates will be provided as they become available.
