Fellowes High School finished off its junior and senior girls volleyball season spectacularly, with county championship wins for both teams.
The junior girls volleyball team finished off their county championships in impressive style. In the semi-final match the team came up against their cross-town rival Bishop Smith Catholic High School. The Falcons took the first set 25-9, and some stellar serving in the second put the Falcons out to an early lead and they cruised to victory 25- 5. They then dispatched Bishop 25-14 to book their place in the final against where they met a determined and talented team from Jeanne Lajoie.
The first set was a tight one, with multiple unforced errors allowing the Chevaliers to keep it close but the Falcons persevered and came out on top 26-24. Better play on the part of the home squad saw them win the second 25-14. Jeanne Lajoie fought back in the third set, taking it 25-23 but was unable to complete the comeback as Fellowes finished strong, taking the fourth and deciding set 25-17 for back-to-back county championships
Congratulations are due to every team member on an incredible season that saw their hard work and perseverance lead them to posting a record of 39-2 in league and playoff play.
The senior girls’ volleyball team put on an equally impressive display with a hard-fought victory in the semi-final over the solid group from Valour. Determination was the order of the day in this back and forth match that saw the Falcons victorious in the fifth and deciding set 15-11.
In the county championship final the Falcons jumped out to an early two-set to none lead with wins of 25-15 and a nail-biter of 28-26. That lead evaporated quickly, however, as the Mustangs stormed back to tie the match at two sets apiece. In the fifth and final set, Fellowes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning their third county championship in four years 15-5.
Congratulations to all the senior girls’ players on their big win.
