Missing man's body found in Algonquin Park

Police have found the body of a missing Toronto man in Algonquin Park.

Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to the park's Achray Gate west of Petawawa Thursday after a 90-year-old man was reported overdue. Provincial park officials had determined that the man's park pass had expired. Police has not released the name of the victim.

The OPP Emergency Response Team and an OPP helicopter were deployed to the scene. County of Renfrew paramedics were also called to the park to assist in the operation. Searchers were able to locate the man's body at the bottom of a canyon near the Barron Canyon Trail.

With the assistance of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, the body was recovered and identified. An autopsy with be conducted. Next of kin have been notified. At this time, the OPP does not deem this death as suspicious, according to a statement from Const. Maggie Jones released Friday.
