Valley Storm wins Peewee C in Silver Stick

The Valley Storm are the proud owners of the Peewee `C' championship banner as the Bill Kutschke Peewee A,B,C Weekend of the 25th annual Pembroke Regional Silver Stick wrapped up this weekend.
The Storm beat the Douro Dukes 7-4 in the finals to take the title.
The game remained a close affair until the third period. The Storm opened the scoring early in the first period only to have the Dukes tie them up. By the end of the second period, the Valley Storm led 3-2, with Douro showing no signs of letting up.
Then in the third, the Storm pounded in three straight goals, doubling their score 6-2. The Dukes responded with two goals of their own, but it was apparent the grueling pace of the tournament had taken its toll on both teams, as game play slowed considerably.
With 30 seconds left in the game, the Valley Storm added one more goal to its tally, making it a 7-4 final.
Bailey Hein scored four goals and earned an assist for the Valley Storm, Brandon English scored once and earned three assists, Denver Schruder scored a goal and was credited with two assists, and Bradley Borutski scored once.
Also earning assists were Nathan Prince and Rory McGrath.
Scoring twice for Douro was Nick Mann, Jacob Richards and Clayton Hilker each scored once, and assists were earned by Jesse Douglas who earned two, and Marty VandenBroek.
The `A' champions were the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven, who blanked the Cobourg Cobras 3-0.
The Ottawa Valley Silver Seven advanced to the finals by defeating the Kingston Canadians 4-1, and the Cobourg Cobras edged the Kanata Blazers 4-3.
The B champions were the Ottawa Sting, who defeated the Renfrew Timberwolves 2-1 after an exciting game which required two overtime periods to settle.
In the `B' Division quarter-finals, Renfrew defeated North Frontenac 4-3, the Ottawa Sting beat Nepean 5-1, Russell downed Manitoulin 3-1, and Stirling routed Kanata 6-2.
Then in the semis, Renfrew defeated Stirling 4-3 in overtime, while the Ottawa Sting edged Russell 3-2.
Both the Pembroke Peewee Kings and the Petawawa Patriots were knocked out of contention during the `B' Division round robin.
The Valley Storm and the Muskrat Voyageurs faced each other in the `C' semifinal on Sunday, after both qualified to move onto the next tier due to their performances in the round robin.
In an intense matchup, the Voyageurs leapt to an early lead, opening the first period with three unanswered goals, which the Storm was able to respond to in the last seconds of the first period.
The Storm surged back, scoring twice in the second period to tie the game up 3-3. They took the lead for the first time midway through the third period, only to see Muskrat come back to tie things up 4-4. Then, 30 seconds later, the Valley Storm regained the lead and held it, despite the strong efforts by Muskrat to even things up.
Bailey Hein proved to be the Voyageurs' nemesis, scoring all five Valley Storm goals including the game winner, scored late in the game to break the tie. Bradley Borutski earned two assists and Denver Schruder received one.
Scoring twice for Muskrat was Andrew McIntyre, with Jake Saunders and Kalem Kennedy each scoring singles. Colin Price earned an assist on Kennedy's play.
This set up their rematch with the Douro Dukes, who they defeated earlier in the day. Douro defeated Tweed Hawks 3-1 in the semifinal.
In the `C' division, after winning their first game Friday, the Valley Storm defeated the Lakefield Chiefs 4-0 on Saturday evening.
Scoreless in the first period, the Storm took a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period, before adding an insurance goal late in the third.
Bradley Borutski scored twice and earned an assist, Denver Schruder scored once and was also credited with an assist, with Nathan Prince rounding out the scoring.
Also earning assists were Zack Luckasavitch and Curtis Sawbridge.
The Storm completed their sweep through the round robin Sunday by beating the Douro Dukes 4-1. They domonated gameplay on the strength of Bradley Borutski's hattrick, which started them off in the first period. Braedon Welk scored in the second period to make it 4-0. Earning assists were Bailey Hein and Zack Luckasavitch.
The Dukes got in the board in the third period. Marty VandenBroek scored, with the assist of Jesse Douglas.
The Muskrat Voyageurs lost to the Tweed Hawks 5-2 on Saturday. Down 3-0 by the second period, Muskrat got on the scoreboard thanks to a shot from Colin Price, assisted by Jake Saunders and Kalem Kennedy.
The Hawks responded with two more goals, one in the secomd and their last in the third period, making it 5-1. The Voyageurs refused to quit, and with less than five minutes to go in the game doubled their score with a goal by Andrew McIntyre, with Konnor Leveque earning the assist.
Unfortunately, the Voyageurs were unable to make up lost ground, and the game ended 5-2.
Scoring for the Hawks were Hannah Yohn and Matt Bell, who each also earned assists, Joel Albert, Gerri Wagner and Tyson Cassidy. Brett Boldrick earned two assists, while Ty Tebo, Dustin Maines and Joel Albert each earned one assist.
The Voyageurs shook off the loss to pound the Norwood Hornets 6-1 on Sunday morning, earning a slot in the `C' semi final. Muskrat dominated the game from the start, scoring six straight goals, two for each period, before the Hornets were able to score once late in the third period.
Andrew McIntyre and Colin Price each scored twice, Jake Saunders scored once and earned two assists, and Konnor Leveque scored once and earned an assist. Kalem Kennedy was credited with four assists, and also earning assists were Devon Bradbury, Mathew Douchant, Colin Price, Katelyn Comeau and Dylan Spencer.
In the `B' Division, the Petawawa Patriots, after losing their first two games on Friday, tied the Perth Blue Wings 3-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Scoreless in the first period, the Patriots dominated the second with three unanswered goals to take the lead 3-0. The combination of Thomas Carver, Mitchell Sennett and Joshua Stoyles proved lethal to Perth, as the line was responsible for the first and third goals of the period, with Carver scoring, and Sennett and Stoyles earning the assists.
Tanner Charette scored the second goal, with the assist of Benjamin Hodd and Austin Brown.
Then, later in the third period, Perth rebounded with three goals of their own to tie things up.
Kyle Dowdall scored twice, while his teammate Alex Echlin scored once and earned an assist in the period. Tyler Murphy, Martin Treffors and Matthew Ferguson picked up assists.
The Pembroke Peewee Kings, down a game from Friday, lost on Saturday afternoon to the North Frontenac Flyers 3-1. Down 3-0 late in the third period, the Kings' Brenden Ogilivie spoiled the shutout with less than four minutes remaining in regulation time, with Scott Shaw earning the assist. Unfortunately, despite being rallied by this much needed goal, the Kings were unable to close the gap.
Scoring twice for the Flyers was David Cox, with Jordan Torres piking up the first goal of the game. Assisting Cox for one of the goals was Noah Kennedy.
Late in the day, the Kings battled the NGS Braves to a 2-2 tie. Pembroke took the lead when Jonathan Gribbon scored early in the first period, with Jordan Ziese and Raegan Goldberg picking up assists. Then in the last minute and a half in the second period, Eric Yaraskavitch made it 2-0, with Logan Larachelle and
Brenden Ogilivie earning assists.
Then with barely a half minute left in the period, Jacob Paavila scored for the Braves, assisted by Olivia Harrison. The Braves would tie the game up at 11:02 left in the third period. Scoring was Taylor Metcalfe with Gracin MacMillan picking up the assist.
Wrapping up the round robin results, in the `A' Division, the Cumberland Jr. Grads defeated the Nepean Raiders 2-1, the Kanata Blazers doubled the Quinte West Hawks 4-2, the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven edged the North York Knights 2-1, the Kingston Canadians and Cumberland tied 3-3, the Cobourg Cobras beat Nepean 3-1, Kingston downed Cobourg 2-1, and Quinte West beat North York 4-1.
In the `B' Division, the Russell River Rats edged the Manitoulin Panthers 2-1, the Stittsville Rams beat the Cumberland Jr. Grads 4-1, the Stirling Blues doubled the Kemptville Panthers 4-2, the Perth Blue Wings beat the Campbellford Colts 5-1, the Alexandria Glens downed the Loyalist Jets 4-3, the Char-Lan Rebels beat the Mississippi Thunder Kings 3-1, the Arnprior Packers blanked the North Dundas Demons 2-0, the Ottawa Sting defeated the NGS Braves 4-2, the Nepean Raiders defeated the Gananoque Islanders 4-0, the Kanata Blazers beat Campbellford 3-2, the Renfrew Timberwolves won against Mississippi 4-3, Char-Lan beat the West Carleton Warriors 5-4, North Frontenac defeated the Ottawa Sting 2-1, the Stirling Blues was victorious over the Stittsville Rams 4-1, Russell stomped Alexandria 7-1, Gananoque downed North Dundas 5-4, Cumberland crushed Kemptville 6-1, and it was Manitoulin over Loyalist 3-0.
In the `C' Division, the Bancroft Jets froze out the Norwood Hornets 4-0, the Douro Dukes beat the East Nipissing Vipers 4-0, the Tweed Hawks thumped the Bancroft Jets 5-1, and the East Nipissing downed the Lakefield Chiefs 4-1.
