The annual Pembroke Fall Cashspiel has a little more clout this year, thanks to the appearance of some special guests.
Bruce Delaney and his team - Rick Bachand, Dunc Jamieson and George Mitchell - the reigning Canadian Seniors Mens Curling Champions, took part in the bonspiel, and were the `A' winners in it.
Delaney's rink from Ottawa's Navy Curling Club, was visiting the Pembroke Curling Club this weekend to take part in the annual bonspiel. The team has been up several times in the past, but never before as a Canadian curling champion.
The rink is getting ready to take part in the world curling championships, being held April 16-24, 2010 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
A total of 20 teams took part, consisting of 80 curlers. While the numbers are down from the 32 team maximum due to competition from other fall events, no one was complaining.
The `B' winners were Bob Burton, Chris Knight, Leo Buckley and Bill Baker.
`C' winners were Ziggy Geson, Angie Castle, Paul Bourne and Dale Martin.
