A goal late in the first period and one early in the second would be all the Pembroke Lumber Kings would need to beat the Smiths Falls Bears 2-0 in Central Junior Hockey League action last night.

Scott Zacharias blocked 25 shots to record the shutout.

The Lumber Kings fired 32 shots at Bears' goalie George Grammenopoulos.

Pembroke opened the scoring on the power play at 17:16 of the opening period when Damian Cross connected from Daniel Sauve and Kyle Just. Sauve was playing his first game as a Lumber King.

Keith Clarke got the insurance marker at 1:08 of the second period. Assists went to Kyle Cromie and Cross.

There were only six penalties called in the first two periods but the game got rough in the final frame when 13 penalties were called including two misconducts to Smiths Falls' Jonathan Milley at the 19:20 mark.

Pembroke's Matthew Peca was named the first star of the game, Kane Abbis-Mills of the Bears was the second star and Cross was the third.

Out of town scoreboard: In other CJHL action last night, it was Brockville 7, Carleton Place 2, Gloucester 6, Ottawa 2, and Cumberland 5, Hawkesbury 3.

The Lumber Kings will host Cumberland on Sunday night at 7 p. m. at the Pembroke Memorial Centre.
