Juno Award winning pianist to perform Rachmaninoff’s dazzling concerto in Deep River

An “epic work of genius” and “the greatest piano concerto ever written” are just some of the accolades for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

You can hear why when the Deep River Symphony Orchestra performs this dazzling piece with guest soloist and 2023 Juno award winner, pianist Philip Chiu, on Saturday, May 6.

Montreal-based Philip Chiu is an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician.

He has performed across Canada, the United States, France and Japan and he can be heard regularly on BBC Radio, France Music, ICI Musique and CBC Music.    

His Juno award-winning album FABLES pairs two piano transcriptions of music by Ravel with Mnidoonskaa (A Multitude of Insects), a 2021 work by Anishinaabekwe composer Barbara Assiginaak that expresses traditions and messages of Indigenous history.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Childs Auditorium, Mackenzie Community School, and will also feature music by Khachaturian and Tchaikovsky.
