MNRF declares Pembroke District including the city a 'restricted fire zone'

As of 12:01 a.m. June 1, the entire Pembroke District has been declared a Restricted Fire Zone by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry which includes the City of Pembroke.
Pembroke is one of many districts in Ontario, particularly Eastern Ontario. experiencing extreme forest fire hazards.
No open-air burning which includes campfires, are permitted in Restricted Fire Zones therefore, all permits issued to City of Pembroke residents are being suspended for the time being.
The ban on open-air fires also includes the Riverside Park campground and the public fire pits located there.
Pembroke Fire Chief Scott Selle said Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved propane and natural gas fired outdoor appliances may still be used but must be handled with extreme caution.
With the extreme hot and dry weather conditions expected to continue, Selle asks residents to respect the ban and understand the dangers of burning during these extreme conditions.
There will be zero tolerance during this ban, Selle said.
To report open-air burning, call the Pembroke Fire Department at 613-735-6821 ext. 1201. Firefighters will respond, extinguish the fire and fine the individuals responsible.
The Pembroke Fire Department is monitoring conditions daily and will provide updates on fire restrictions.
