The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has wrapped up its annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign and is calling it a success.
During the campaign, which ran from Nov. 16 to Jan. 1, a total of 124 RIDE checks were conducted by officers resulting in charges against 15 drivers. Police said the charges are related to impaired driving, either surpassing the 80mg blood alcohol limit or outright refusal to be tested. Moreover, the enforcement efforts extended to three other drivers found themselves with roadside driver’s license suspensions. These suspensions were imposed on individuals who recorded readings within the warn range on a roadside screening device.
Despite the conclusion of the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign, the commitment of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP to ensuring safety on roadways remains unwavering. Police said citizens should be aware that RIDE programs will be conducted throughout the year at any time, be it day or night.
