Staff at Millhaven Institution intercepted several packages containing drugs, weapons and other contraband, unauthorized items totalling more than $330,000 on Thursday, says a news release from Correction Service Canada.
The drugs seized at the maximum-security institution included marijuana, cannabis concentrate (shatter) hashish, crystal methamphetamine, hydromorphone pills, drug paraphernalia and an unknown white powder. Also discovered in the packages were edged weapons, cellphones and accessories.
“The Correctional Service of Canada uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions,” read the release. “These tools include ion scanners and detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.”
CSC has set up a tip line for federal institutions so it may receive additional information about activities related to security of inmates, staff and visitors. The tip line can be reached by dialing 1-866-780-3784,
