Local teams continue to struggle at Pembroke Regional Silver Stick

The second weekend of the 39th annual Terry O’Neill Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament has come and gone and a local team has yet to make the playoff round.
The Bill Kutschke U13 weekend ran from Nov. 17 to 19 and saw the Pembroke Kings, Petawawa Patriots, Muskrat Voyageurs, and Deep River Knights all struggle in the round-robin portion of the tournament.
The Eastern Ontario Cobras captured the AA division with a 5-2 win over the Cumberland Jr. Grads.
The B division title went to the Cumberland Jr. Grads B who shut out Nepean Raiders White 7-0 in that final.
In the C division final, the Frontenac Flyers took home the silver stick after defeating the Norwood Hornets 1-0.
To open the tournament on Friday in the B division, the Pembroke Kings doubled the Kanata Blazers 4-2 but on the Saturday, the Kings were beaten 5-2 by the Kemptville Royals and then shut out 8-0 by the West Carleton Crusaders.
In the AA division The Upper Ottawa Valley Aces lost to the Northumberland Nighthawks 4-1, the Cumberland Jr. Grads 3-1 and the Eastern Ontario Cobras 1-0.
Also in the B division, the Petawawa Patriots lost all three of their round-robin matchups against Nepean Raiders White, the Ennismore Eagles, and Clarence-Rockland Crush by scores of 3-0, 6-1, and 4-0 respectively.
In the C division, the Deep River Knights’ 1-1-1 record in the round-robin wasn’t enough to earn the team a playoff spot. The Knights defeated the Tweed Hawks 3-2 on Nov. 17, but were shut out 7-0 by the Sturgeon Lake Thunder, then tied the Campbellford Colts 4-4.
Also in the C division, the Muskrat Voyageurs tied the Lakefield Chiefs 3-3, but were doubled 4-2 by the Norwood Hornets and beaten 10-0 by the Duoro Dukes.
The Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament has now reached the halfway point. Next up is the Frank Nighbor U15 weekend running from Nov. 24 to 26 and finally the Art Bogart U18 weekend from Dec. 1 to 3. Games take place at the both the Pembroke Memorial Centre and the Pembroke and Area Community Centre.
