Muskrat Voyageurs claim U15 C division championship at Pembroke Silver Stick

The Muskrat Voyageurs claimed the Silver Stick in the C division of the Frank Nighbor U15 weekend at the 39th annual Terry O’Neill Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament with a 5-3 win over the Otonabee Wolves Sunday afternoon at the Pembroke and Area Community Centre.
Lincoln Kuehl of the Voyageurs scored the game-winner in the second period, snapping a quick wrister past the outstretched left pad of the Wolves’ goaltender. Logan Breen would add the insurance marker.
Having won its division at the Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament, the Voyageurs now move on to compete in the International Silver Stick Tournament being held in Forest, Ont. from January 5 to 7, 2024.
To reach the C final, the Voyageurs first eliminated the Campbellford Colts in one of the C semifinals, shutting the team out 3-0. Otonabee advanced with a 4-2 doubling of the Sturgeon Lake Thunder.
In the round-robin portion of the tournament, the Voyageurs went 2-1, opening on Friday, Nov. 24 with a 7-1 drubbing of the Tweed Hawks. In the team’s second game, held Friday evening, Muskrat suffered its only loss of the tournament, a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the same Wolves the team would meet in the final. On Saturday, the Voyageurs doubled the Mariposa Lighting 4-2.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Aces came close in the AA division, losing in the semifinals to the Scarborough Young Bruins by a score of 3-1. In the round robin, the Aces shut out the Mississauga Terriers 4-0, defeated the Young Bruins 4-1, and tied the Eastern Ontario Cobras 2-2. Those same Cobras went on to win the final 3-2 over the Young Bruins to claim the AA division.
The remaining local teams, the Pembroke Kings and Petawawa Patriots, failed to make the playoff round with the Kings going 0-3 and the Pats 1-2. Pembroke was downed by 6-0, 2-1, and 7-0 by the Leitrim Hawks, Stirling Blues, and Mississippi Thunder Kings respectively.
Petawawa lost to the West Carelton Crusaders 4-1 on Friday, and the G.O.B. Blues 3-1 early on Saturday morning. Later in the day, the Pats rebounded to shut out the Prince Edward County Kings 2-0.
The 39th annual Terry O’Neill Pembroke Regional Silver Stick Tournament has one weekend remaining, the Art Bogart U18 weekend which runs from Dec. 1 to 3 with games at both the Pembroke and Area Community Centre and the Pembroke Memorial Centre.
