Learn to Sail This Summer

Have you ever wanted to try sailing, but don’t know where to start? The initial investment in a boat and mooring can be daunting. Perhaps you have already given it a try as crew on a friend’s boat and ended up with a minor concussion from an errant boom, or caused an inadvertent gybe because you were standing on a line, leading to cross words from the skipper and frustration all round. It doesn’t have to be that way!

The Deep River Yacht and Tennis Club offers sailing instruction for youth and adults during the summer months. Sail Canada certified instructors provide coaching and encouragement from motorboats that are always in attendance when a class is on the water. Our popular youth program for ages 8 to 17 operates on a weekly basis from July 6 to August 21, with daily lessons starting at 9:00 AM and running to 4:00 PM with a one-hour break for lunch. Instruction based on the Sail Canada Cansail program is offered from Cansail 1 (beginner) to Cansail 4 and consists of some on land instruction and plenty of sailing.

The instructional fleet consists of Optimist, Topper Topaz, Laser II and 420-class dinghies, suitable for a range of crew weights and abilities.
