This year the Renfrew County Regional Science Fair sent three students to Fredericton New Brunswick to participate in the Canada Wide Science Fair from May 10th to 17th. This event hosts 500 students from across Canada ranging from grade 7-12 who submit their projects for judgment, participate in numerous extracurricular events and end the event with a glamourous awards ceremony.

The three students who represented Renfrew County were:
Tahir Elfitori, grade 8 at Champlain Discovery
(a second year attendee of the national event).
Renee Kong, grade 9 at Fellowes High School.
Kathryn Nichol, grade 9 at Fellowes High School.

These students represented Renfrew County very well and had the opportunity to tour the University of New Brunswick Campus as well as the Bay of Fundy and other East Coast attractions. They participated in a number of hands-on laboratory activities and viewed lectures presented by numerous scientific professionals.

While the three students did not return with awards from the Canada Wide Science Fair, they were an exceptional academic reflection of Renfrew County and represented our region with pride. It is likely safe to assume they are already working on next year’s projects!
