The Bytown Belles, a 21-and-over women's fastpitch softball team, went undefeated this past weekend in the Ancaster Cam Mitchell Memorial Tournament to claim the gold medal. In round robin, the Belles took down the Bramalea Slam 11-1, Ancaster Blizzard Midget-C 7-1, Ancaster Blizzard Intermediate 1-0, and cross-town rival Kars Aces 8-1.

In semi-final action, Bytown earned a 4-3 comeback win over the Kitchener Lady Royals. Pembroke native and University of Ottawa alumni Jean Cardona pitched the complete game win.

The championship game saw the Belles take down Ancaster Blizzard Midget-B in a close-fought 3-1 battle.

This weekend follows Bytown's undefeated tournament championship win in St Catharines May 27-29.

Along with Cardona, the Belles have two other athletes from Pembroke in Elissa Sivel and Amber O’Connor.

Four alumni from the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees fastpitch program also make up the team, including Erin Durant, Brye Corkum, Sivel and Cardona.
