Women who have experienced sexual violence anytime throughout their lives will now have more local supports available. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County recently applied for and received a grant from the Ontario Governments “Innovation Fund”. “The Innovation Fund invests in projects that support survivors who may be at higher risk and require services tailored to their needs,” said Jancy Brown, Communications Coordinator.
This project was one of just seven funded across Ontario. The project focuses on offering supports to women living in less accessible parts of the county. “Renfrew County is a large area and women do not always have access to transportation to receive support in our Pembroke Office” explained Ms Brown. “This grant allows us to travel to other locations to better meet the needs of women in our community.”
The project, which will be operating for the next two years will offer a variety of supports including weekly one on one support to women in the Arnprior, Beachburg, Cobden, and Golden Lake communities. As well there will be the opportunity for community members and organisations to host workshops on a variety of topics relevant to survivors and their families. Supports will be available in both English and French.
As always WSAC will continue to meet women in their Pembroke offices. For further information or for support contact the Centre at 613-735-5551 or on the Support and Crisis Line 1-800-663-3060.
