GARRISON PETAWAWA – Over 100 army and air cadets, officers and volunteers came together for the second annual Ottawa Valley Cadet Sports Competition (OVCSC) at Dundonald Hall on March 11th.

Cadets from 638 Air Cadet Squadron (Pembroke), 653 Air Cadet Squadron (Renfrew), 2360 Army Cadet Corps (Arnprior), 2642 Army Cadet Corps (Petawawa), and 2677 Army Cadet Corps (Pembroke) competed in various varsity sports, with 2642 Petawawa taking the gold, after last year’s champions, 638 Pembroke, came right behind in second place.

“The objective of the OVCSC is to foster unit morale amongst the area cadet units and to encourage friendly competition between all cadets,” explained Cadet Chief Warrant Officer Connor Hamilton, Competition Sergeant Major and Regimental Sergeant Major of 2677 Army Cadet Corps in Pembroke, “It was a very successful event for all units and we’re already looking forward to next year’s competition.”

The Cadet Program offers a variety of dynamic training and experiential opportunities to local youth between the ages of 12 and 18. Both during the school season and throughout the summer, Air, Army, and Sea Cadets participate in numerous activities ranging from gliding, sailing, and camping to training and cultural exchanges all across the globe! In doing so, Cadets develop transferable, career-enhancing skills that will last them a lifetime. If you or know someone who may be interested in joining cadets, please google "Cadets" to find the corps or squadron nearest you!
