Drivers in Renfrew county
I am a Petawawa citizen who is fed up with how people drive in this area and how the Ontario Provincial Police are not doing anything about it so I submitted a letter to the Police Department in hopes that something will be done about it. I was advised to email The Daily Observer with a copy of my letter so you can post it or if this was a waste of time, then my sincere apologies. Below is my letter... To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this letter in great hopes that the following issue will be addressed. I reside in Petawawa and commute to Pembroke on a daily basis for work. I realize the speed limit between Petawawa Boulevard and Pembroke Street is 80KMs maximum; however I am suggesting that maybe a minimum speed limit should be posted, or maybe the speed limit signage should be a lot larger. The reason I am suggesting this is because typically it should only take me 15 – 20 minutes tops to get from my home in Petawawa to my place of work in Pembroke. This is never the case however. Every single day I have to leave 45 minutes early just to make it to work on time because every single day I get stuck behind someone driving well below 80KMs. With this stretch only being single lane traffic, it makes it very difficult to get anywhere in this area early or on time without leaving your home extremely early. I know there is the small stretch where passing in the on-coming traffic lane is permitted, however it’s never possible to take advantage of that opportunity because there is always on-coming traffic due to it being a single lane road. I do realize that my other option to avoid this issue completely is to take highway 17 but that is actually not an option for me. First of all, I shouldn’t have to take highway 17 when the main street speed limit is 80MKs. Second of all, I live and work right off the main street so highway 17 takes me totally out of the way which is a huge waste of time and gas. I constantly witness and hear of people getting pulled over for speeding but have never once witnessed or heard of anyone getting pulled over for going under the limit. The limit is not just posted for speeders. Believe me when I say I am not alone on this. Something has to be done. Enough is enough!! Time is something everyone on this Earth does not have enough of so why not try to do what we can to preserve as much time as we possibly can. Thank you for listening. Sincerely, A Concerned Citizen
