Pembroke Public Library Offers Book Arts Workshops!

Pembroke Public Library will be hosting Nancy Trottier, of Trottier Calligraphy Studios and Ducks In A Row Press, Deep River, for a series of Book Arts Workshops from May – September of 2013. The all day workshops will take place in the Board Room of the Library from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch to eat in the workshop space. Snacks for morning and afternoon breaks will be provided. The fee for each workshop will be $50 per student for the class, with an additional $20 materials fee. Participants will learn the fundamental techniques in each of the areas offered, and will complete at least one finished project per workshop. Everyone will take home a course workbook and materials in order to continue applying the techniques they have learned. Each workshop has a maximum of 25 students and preregistration is required. The first workshop, Introduction to Calligraphy, will take place on Saturday, May 4th, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The following workshops include, Making a Single Signature Manuscript Book, June 1st, Advanced Calligraphy Techniques, July 13th, Introduction to Brush Writing, August 24th , Advanced Brush Writing, September 14th, and Making and Binding Your Own Personal Journal, October 5th.

Nancy Trottier is an internationally recognized calligraphy and book arts instructor. Her undergraduate career was spent at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, where she studied with the world-renowned Calligrapher and Paleographer, The Reverend Edward Michael Catich, who died in 1979. Trottier’s graduate work is in the history of art, specifically the history of early French printed books of hours. She is a former Newberry Library Fellow, serves on the Board of Directors for The Museum of Printing in North Andover, MA , and is a member of the CORE faculty for The CATFISH Letter Arts School, a working division of The Art Legacy League in Iowa . Her work is contained in national and international private and public collections. Trottier is a member of The Valley Artisans’ Co-op in Deep River and writes a blog through her website, for Ducks In A Row Press.. She lives in Deep River with her husband, The Reverend François Trottier, Rector for St. Barnabas Anglican Church.
